Privacy policy
This page explains what information Unofficial NASCAR Statistics handles when you visit, why, and the rights you have over it. It's short because there isn't much to say.

Who runs this site
The site is run by Tim Biddle, an individual who builds it in his own time. He is the data controller for the information described here. For anything to do with privacy, emailprivacy@nascar-statistics.uk.
The short version
- The site sets no cookies of its own, and there are no ads, analytics or tracking.
- There are no accounts, no forms and no database of visitors.
- Our host keeps routine request logs, including your IP address, for up to 7 days.
- Your settings, such as light or dark mode, are saved in your own browser and never sent to us.
What we collect and why
Request logs
- What: technical details of each request your browser makes, such as your IP address, the page asked for, the time, and your browser's user agent.
- Why: to keep the site running and secure, and to find and fix faults.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely keeping the site running and secure.
- How long: up to 7 days, after which the logs are deleted automatically.
Emails you send us
- What: your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- Why: to reply to you and deal with your request.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely answering the people who get in touch.
- How long: only as long as it takes to deal with your message.
Facts about drivers
Driver pages publish public facts about public figures, such as date and place of birth and nationality, taken from public sources including Wikidata. We hold them because reporting on the sport means saying who is in it, and our lawful basis is legitimate interests in reporting on the sport. They stay on the site while the driver is covered by it. If you'd like one of these facts corrected or removed, email privacy@nascar-statistics.uk.
Settings stored in your browser
This site sets no cookies of its own. When you press one of the site's toggles, it remembers your choice in your browser's local storage so the site looks the same next time:
nascar:theme: light or dark mode.nascar:mode: your reading mode (New here, Following or Deep).nascar:tz: the time zone the calendar shows race times in.nascar:spoilers: whether videos that could give away a result are hidden or shown.
These are only written when you press a toggle. They stay on your device, are never sent to us, and are not cookies. Because they only remember choices you made, they don't need your consent. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Separately, if Cloudflare's security checks ever need to tell a person from an automated bot, Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie (such as __cf_bm, which lasts 30 minutes). That is strictly necessary to protect the site, so it doesn't need consent either.
Third parties your browser contacts
Fonts and logos are served from this site, and the live timing and weather are fetched by our own server, so NASCAR and Open-Meteo never see your IP address. The exception is YouTube, on the videos page:
- Video thumbnails load from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com) as soon as the page opens, which sends your IP address to Google.
- The video player loads from youtube-nocookie.com only after you press play. From then on, Google's privacy policy applies.
Who processes data for us
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site on Cloudflare Workers, keeps the request logs described above for up to 7 days, and handles email for this domain. Cloudflare may process data in the United States. Those transfers rely on the UK safeguards Cloudflare offers: the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the Information Commissioner's International Data Transfer Addendum. SeeCloudflare's privacy policy.
Your rights

You have the right to object to any processing we do on the basis of legitimate interests, including the request logs and the driver facts above. Emailprivacy@nascar-statistics.uk and say what you object to.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaintor on 0303 123 1113.
